Browse and purchase our books, then bring a short passage, poem, or piece of your own to read aloud if you wish—we’ll listen. Roots&Voice is the public arts identity of Laurie S. Sherman’s work. Books are published through Hineni Circle LLC, and nonprofit-supported cultural work is carried through Hineni Project Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We enter through reading, gathering, study, and practice, again and again.

At a Roots&Voice Gathering, women from history and imagination step off the page, their voices filling the room with longing, defiance, and unexpected laughter. A dramatic reading opens into conversation, where a stranger’s observation may stir your own memory—or challenge something you thought you knew. You come to listen and find yourself part of the telling.
Everyone is welcome. No experience is needed.
